Judicial Yuan Proposed a Grand Chamber

To resolve inconsistencies in legal opinions delivered by the Supreme Court, Taiwan's Judicial Yuan proposed the establishment of a “Grand Chamber”, which would operate within the Supreme Court or Supreme Administrative Court.

To that end, the Judicial Yuan proposed amendments to the Organic Act for the Courts and the Organic Act for the Administrative Courts to create the Grand Chamber, if such amendments are passed by legislative body.

The other expectation is that a Grand Chamber would improve judicial transparency and consistency.

Thus, the Grand Chamber will hear cases in open court, and litigants will be required to have legal representation.  Moreover, the Grand Chamber will also be able to consult outside experts for advice, if in the discretion of the Grand Chamber such advice is required.
