Foreign Students allowed CPA Internships in Taiwan

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Economic Affairs began allowing corporations and juridical persons to apply for foreign students to take up internships in Taiwan. The Financial Supervisory Commission increased the liberalization of this matter on August 4th, 2006, by promulgating the “Regulations for Inviting Foreign Students to Come to the Republic of China for Internships in CPA Offices”.

Junior level college students and above are eligible for this program. This new measure will allow foreigners undertaking accounting-related studies to obtain practical experiences.  It will also help Taiwan’s enterprises and CPA offices with their future personnel development and recruitment.

A legally established CPA office must first submit an application for a foreign intern.  After the Financial Supervisory Commission’s approval, the relevant overseas representative office will issue a foreign-student certification for the student to come to Taiwan. During the period of internship the foreign student is not permitted to change the content of his or her internship plan. While internship period is six months, a one time extension may be granted if necessary.
