In Taipei International Book Exhibition 2008, Professor Huang from Aichi University of Japan made a statement that the latest version of Kojien (a single-volume Japanese dictionary first published by Iwanami Shoten in 1955.  Many native speakers of Japanese regard the Kojien as the most authoritative dictionary, and newspaper editorials frequently cite its definitions) includes a Taiwan writer list for the first time, and eleven Taiwan writers have been listed therein.  Such result could be deemed as a notable progress of Taiwan’s “Translation of works in Chinese in foreign languages plan”.  It also indicates that Taiwan literary works are drawing more and more international attention.

Council of cultural affairs, Taiwan launched the project from 1990.  More than hundred and forty works have been translated into more than 8 languages through subsidies from this project.  Subsidy granted under the project has been gradually rising from for 5 books a year to 15 books a year.
