High Competitive IT Ranking

According to a recent report by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU), Taiwan ranks 6th globally for information technology competiti-veness.  The 82 participants were ranked on a scale of 100 based on indices including business environment, IT infrastructure, human resources, legal environment, R&D as well as technology industry developments.

Taiwan's strengths are in hardware, semiconductors and personal computers.  Potential areas for growth include software and technology services.

Taiwan, a Good Investment Rating

According to the Business Environ-ment Risk Intelligence's (BERI) 2006 report, Taiwan received a rating of "1A" – the highest possible – for risk in investment.  Taiwan scored 72 points on BERI's profit opportunity recommendation survey.  Among the 50 countries ranked globally, Taiwan was only behind Switzerland, Singapore, Netherlands, Japan and Norway. 

In Asia, Taiwan ranked 3rd (behind Singapore, 1st, and Japan, 2nd) ahead of China (17th), Malaysia (19th), South Korea (21st), Thailand (39th) and Indonesia (47th).  The Report noted that Taiwan's ranking could advance as its overall business environment improves and political risks minimize.
