Amendment to Levy Income Tax on Teachers and Military Personnel has Been Approved
Taiwan Income Tax Act has been approved by the Legislative Yuan to be amended that teachers and military personnel are obligated to pay tax from 2012. It is said that approximate 370 thousand people will be affected.
Although teachers and military personnel will be imposed income tax, such imposed tax amount will be only used to teachers and military personnel. In fact, the national treasury’s income will not increase. Several organizations have criticized such way of imposition and compensation because it does not fit the principle of fairness and justice.
However, facing the aforementioned criticism, the Premier, Mr. Wu Dun-Yi, clarifies that the government will apply such tax amount paid by teachers and military personnel to improve soft materials in connection with national defense and education, instead of directly compensation to teachers and military personnel.
