Ministry of the Interior is amending Regulations on Management of the Illegal Constructions
After the fire in the ALA Pub in Taichung, the Ministry of Interior decides to deal with the illegal constructions more resolutely. The draft Regulation on the Management of the Illegal Constructions will divide the illegal constructions into three categories and the authority will tear down any newly constructed illegal constructions in order to stop the building of such constructions.
According to the statistics gathered by the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of Interior, there are at least 500,000 of illegal constructions and about one-third of them are locating in the New Taipei City. After the fire in the pub in Taichung, the Ministry of Interior conducted some investigations on the pubs and KTVs and found about 65.1% of them did not confirm to the regulations.
The newly drafted Regulation will divide the illegal constructions into three categories. The old illegal constructions which affect public safety will be dismantled on a schedule set by local authority. As to those old illegal constructions which do not influence the public safety shall be managed by categories and scheduled to be dismantled. With regard to the newly constructed illegal constructions, they should be dismantled without exceptions. The draft Regulation also authorizes the local authorities to hire the private sectors to do the demolition work in case the local authorities do not equipped with the necessary resources.
