Seminar on Cross Strait Low Temperature Logistics Cooperation Lays Foundation for Future Cooperation

On August 13, 2013, the Industry Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan and the China Logistics Research Institute (CLRI) held a seminar discussing future cooperation on low temperature logistics between Taiwan and China at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. Over 100 representatives from the food manufacturing, storage and transportation industry and the wholesale and retail business participated in this event. In order to further facilitate cross strait cooperation, participants signed a total of 8 cooperation plans during the seminar, laying the foundation for future cooperation.

After the signing of the ECFA in 2010, on November 4, 2011, the ITRI and logistics corporations formed the “Cross Strait Low Temperature Logistics Technology and Service Alliance”, seeking to invent business models for logistics, assist in incorporating new technology into business to enhance business effectiveness and facilitate cross strait cooperation. With the signing of the Trade in Services Agreement under the ECFA on June 21, 2013, business sectors such as telecommunication, tourism, finance and logistics from both sides now have the opportunity to facilitate trade and develop further cooperation. The Alliance led by the ITRI seeks to fully exploit business opportunities therein. This seminar between the ITRI and the CLRI represents the effort from both sides to secure a platform to allow corporations to exchange business experiences and establish communication channels. The 8 cooperation plans signed at the seminar can be seen as the crystallization of the long time effort from both sides.

The cooperation plans involve a total of 260 million NTD in transaction value. They mainly cover agreements on the construction of low temperature storage sites and the establishment of logistics operations in China. It is expected that these plans will help pave the way for future business cooperation across the Strait where the knowledge and technologies, which the ITRI and Taiwan corporations possess, may find business opportunities in China.
