Proposed Amendments to the Labor Standards Act
According to Taiwan's Ministry of Labor Affairs, proposed amendments to the Labor Standards Act (LSA) were submitted to the Executive Yuan on 30 December 2014. Among the amendments, the limited statutory working hours is reduced to 40 hours per week and the ceiling for the overtime work is increased to 60 hours per month.
The number of national holidays for employees is lowered to 12 days. If the amendments are approved by the Legislative Yuan this year, approximately 3.4 million workers will be favorably affected, as this number currently do not enjoy the benefit of a 2 days of vacation every week.
If an employee is requested to work on holidays because of any acts of God or incidents, in addition to paying double his/her salary, the employer will be required to provide a day-off within 7 days after the employee works a holiday. Further, the pay slip provided by an employer when paying salary will have to include the details of any amounts such as the for overtime work and bonuses.
