Wages for Workers under Designated Responsibility Increase

With the official implementation of five-day week starting January 1, 2016, the Ministry of Labor (MOL) announced to the public that employers should be prepared to adapt to the new laws to avoid administrative penalties.

According to MOL, current statutory maximum working hours for workers under designated responsibility are 240 hours per month, whereas the other workers are 182.66 hours per month.

After five-day week implementation, maximum working hours for workers not under designated responsibility will be decreased to 174 hours per month, but with the same minimum monthly wage of NTD 20,008. However, for workers under designated responsibility when the hours exceed 174 hours, employers will have to pay for the exceeding hours based on the standard of minimum monthly wage. For example, when workers under designated responsibility reach the maximum working hours of 240 in a month, the employer will have to pay for the extra 66 hours based on the hourly rate of NTD 83.37.
