The Sales Tax Return—Buy a New Car

Taiwan's Ministry of Finance has reminded the public that from Jan. 8, 2016, sales tax returns of NT$ 50,000 and NT$ 4,000 will be respectively granted to person(s) buying a new car and a new scooter (motorcycle) if the buyer's old car or old scooter is 6 years old and also has been owned by said buyer(s) for more than one year. To encourage the public to buy new cars, the Ministry of Finance amended the Regulations for Used Automobiles. From July 6, 2016, anyone who inherits a used car will be entitled to the sales tax return indicated above when buying a new car if such heir and the decedent had added up to own the used car for more than one year. The above preference will be extended for 3 months after the deadline for applying for the tax return.
