Enforcement Date of Amended Article 34 of Labor Standards Act Postponed

Article 34 of the Labor Standards Act originally provides that workers who are on a rotation system shall be granted a proper rest period. On 6 December 2016, this article was amended such that workers on a rotation system will be granted a rest period of at least eleven consecutive hours and the Executive Yuan will set the enforcement date.

The Ministry of Labor declared that enforcement of the amendment will begin within one year. However, recently, the Executive Yuan announced that the enforcement date shall postpone to January 2019 in order to buffer the effects of the amendment on the relevant industries.
