Guidelines re the Work Hours of Tour Bus Drivers

On 8 August 2017 Taiwan's Occupational Safety and Health Administration under the Ministry of Labor issued guidelines for determining the work hours of tour bus drivers, which were then issued for reference by the relevant local authorities.

The guidelines stipulate that calculation of work hours shall be determined by whether a driver is under his/her supervisor's command, and whether the driver is free to use his/her time as he/she pleases. That is, the time for delay, inspection, and bus-maintenance shall be deemed as working hours.

However, if a journey is arranged so that the driver stays at a specific destination location for at least thirty minutes, such as attending protest activities, weddings, and funerals, and all of the tourists leave the bus, the time the driver spends waiting shall be deemed as rest time rather than a portion of the driver’s working hours.
