Legislative Yuan Approves Proposed Amendments on Partial Articles of Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act
On 31 May 2019, Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan approved proposed amendments on partial articles of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act. The amendments are as follow:
1. If the rider of an electric bicycle (“Rider”) exceeds the speed limit of 25 km per hour, he/she may be fined an amount of up to NT$ 1,800.
2. An NT$ 300 penalty may be imposed if the Rider of an electric bicycle fails to wear a helmet.
3. The owner of an electric bicycle may be fined an amount of up to NT$ 5,400 if the electric bicycle is modified without authorization.
The purpose of these amendments is to regulate the use of electric bicycles and to maintain road traffic safety.
