TAIWAN DRAFTING GUIDELINES TO ALLOW FOREIGN STUDENTS INTERNS

Taiwan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development indicated during a recent meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce that guidelines are currently being drafted that will permit foreign students to enter Taiwan for the purpose of conducting internships in positions not limited organizations and entities engaged in high-technology and or research and development activities.

The Council for Economic Planning and Development indicated that Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has already formulated the Regulations Governing the Application of Foreign Students to the ROC in the Capacity of Interns in Science and Technology Industries or Research Institutions. These Regulations will permit foreign university-level students to perform internships with entities that qualify under certain prescribed conditions and which are engaged in high-technology business and research and development.

Moreover, these Regulations make eligible those foreign students at the university level or above whose parents are directors, supervisors, or managers of foreign-invested enterprises to apply for intern positions at organizations and entities not engaged in high-technology and or research and development activities.
