LISTED COMPANIES NOW PERMITTED TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL FORECASTS ON VOLUNTARY BASIS

Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission on 10 December 2004 issued an administrative order that permits listed companies to issue corporate financial forecasts on a voluntary basis. This change will become effective from 1 January 2005. According to the order, companies now can choose to issue a simple (quarterly) report or a complete (annual) report. It is hoped that this order will facilitate a reduction in costs for companies and also enhance the accuracy of such forecasts, while further conforming to accepted international practices.

However, it has indicated that in the event a company does not utilize one of the two methods above-identified but acknowledges that it instead announced a forecast of its operating income or profit-type information via alternative media or venues, the company may be requested to make a public announcement via a complete financial forecast within ten days of notification from the Financial Supervisory Commission.
