DEPARTMENT STORES IN TAIPEI ARE REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN INDOOR SPACE TEMPERATURE

The new autonomous regulation promulgated by the Taipei City government regarding indoor space temperature has become effective since May this year. The regulation requires department stores, hypermarkets, public area of hotels, and business buildings in Taipei City to maintain their indoor space temperature at 26℃ or above. The competent authority will firstly order the entity violating the above regulation to adjust the indoor temperature. If the entity fails to follow the order, it will face a fine ranging from NT$ 10,000 to 50,000. Any refusal of inspection will also lead to a fine ranging from NT$ 30,000 to 50,000.

“The telecommunication and network rooms, rooms of hotels, photography/television/movie studios, ice palaces, and the performance halls with more than 200 seats are exempted from the regulation”, said Taipei Mayor, Hau Lung-bin. According to the Taipei City Government, they will not conduct inspection on restaurants during dining time.
