TIPO and KIPO signed two IP-related MOUs
The officials from TIPO (Taiwan Intellectual Property Office) and KIPO (Korea Intellectual Property Office) has reached two MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) on June to establish Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) and the electronic exchange of priority documents in the coming future. TIPO stated that the domestic electronic industry, semiconductor industry and Korean chemistry industry would benefit from the MOUs upon execution of the formal agreements.
Korea ranks high among top patent filing nations in Taiwan. In addition, Korea is the fifth biggest IP authority around the world, and it has always been the key target of Taiwan industries conducting patent portfolio.
Countries like the United States and Japan have been active in the cooperative project for PPH which accelerates the scrutiny of patent application. With the PPH, patent applicants can save nearly two third of the time waiting for the grant of patent from the IP office than before.
The MOU on electronic exchange of priority documents will also save the patent applicant’s time and money by adopting the electronic approaches for the exchange of the patent priority documents.
