Civil Aeronautics Administration Asks EVA to Negotiate Rationally with Flight Attendants

During typhoon Nesat, 500 EVA Air (EVA) flight attendants applied for days off due to the natural disaster and EVA approved these per the relevant rules. Thus, EVA cancelled 50 flights, thus causing some chaos for travelers.

Taiwan's Deputy Governor of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications required the Civil Aeronautics Administration to develop measures to respond to the situation. The EVA union states that flight attendants should not be made the scapegoat for the problems with decisions to cancel flights and assignments of personnel.

Each flight attendant legitimately applied for their days off. However, 500 flight attendants took days off at the same time, which situation seriously impacted transportation such that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications decided to look into the matter.

Aviation, Taiwan's High Speed Rail, and the Taiwan Railways are widely used by the general public in Taiwan.

Permitting the transport industry have more flexibility in arranging work hours and employees leave is in the public's interest. To avoid similar situations that would have significant negative impact on travelers, the Civil Aeronautics Administration urged EVA to negotiate with employees in a rational manner.
