TAIWAN REVISES PHARMACEUTICAL AFFAIRS LAW TO PROVIDE NEW PHARMACEUTICALS FIVE-YEAR

Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan on 21 January 2005 passed revisions to the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law which grant protection for pharmaceutical data exclusivity for a maximum period of five years. This revision was passed in order to bring Taiwan into conformity with recent international trends in regulations related to medical care.

The Law as revised is expected to greatly enhance protection for intellectual property rights associated with pharmaceuticals in Taiwan. This, in turn is hoped to be an incentive to pharmaceutical companies to develop new products in Taiwan.
