FOREIGN AND CHINESE CONFERENCE ATTENDEES TO HAVE EASIER ENTRY TO TAIWAN

Taiwan’s Executive Yuan has recently decided to make it easier for foreign nationals and mainland Chinese citizens to enter Taiwan for the purpose of attending international conferences and exhibitions in held in Taiwan. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs is currently drafting new entry rules and procedures for foreign and mainland Chinese nationals who wish to enter Taiwan to attend international conferences and exhibitions. These new procedures and rules are expected to make international conferences and exhibitions held in Taiwan more appealing and attractive to foreign nationals and mainland Chinese citizens.

As per the preliminary plan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs will prepare for the Bureau of Consular Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a list of foreign nationals who have been invited to attend and or a list of foreign business persons who have indicated a desire to attend international conferences that have been approved by the Ministry of International Affairs. The foreign national or mainland Chinese persons named on these lists will be permitted to obtain entry visas upon arrival in Taiwan.

Applications for such entry visas must be submitted seven days in advance of scheduled arrival in Taiwan. The Ministry of Economic Affairs will coordinate with Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council and Ministry of the Interior to handle the entry of mainland Chinese citizens participating in such events on a case-by-case basis. Attendees of corporate-sponsored conferences held in Taiwan by large multinational concerns will also be eligible to enter Taiwan using this new system.
