TAIWAN CONTEMPLATING A LIMITED PARTNERSHIP ACT

Taiwan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) are preparing to begin in 2005 a feasibility study with respect to drafting a limited partnership act that would hopefully enhance the flexibility of corporate operations in Taiwan.

If a new bill is drafted and does become law, venture capital firms operating in Taiwan should benefit from an expected greater flexibility and a more clearly defined framework for withdrawing from the market. This, it is hoped, should facilitate the inward flow of both long-term domestic and foreign capital into Taiwan’s venture capital industry.

Per to the present thinking, the MOEA at the central government level and city governments at the special municipality level will be the authorities supervising limited partnerships.
